The Gangsta Rap/ Trap Rap Movement

Every since the days of Easy E and N.W.A America has been in love with
gangster rap. Saggy pants ,hardcore lyrics full of vulgarity and
obscenities you gotta love it. It seems as though the more rude the more
crude the artist's persona is the more young listeners idolize them. Is our society so warped that our childrens' role models are not doctors, lawyers, etc. but glorified pimps and drug dealers? As of late artists from the southern states have been the most prominate. Artists like underground legends Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, and other southern based atrists have developed a spin off of the gangsta rap genre refered to as Trap music(Traping being slang for drug dealing). Due to the recent commercial success of pioneers in the Trap genre our youth is being influenced negatively now more than ever. Gangster rap has been rauncy since its beginning but now a days limited restriction on what can be shown on television combined with the availability of the internet which is completely unrestricted is rapidly aiding the destruction of our countries moral fabric. I have to know; what is it that attracts our youth to the street life risk, thrill, or lack of parental guidance and government censorship? Whoever is in charge in the households across the U.S. as well as those who's job it is to censor what the general public is exposed to both need to seriously pay closer attention to what slips pass their radar. The world would be a much better place if people took responsibility for their off-spring instead of letting media raise them.

  1. I STRONGLY AGREE WITH YOU MR. MCCURTIS....GOOD QUESTION AT THE END. MY OPINION AS TO WHY THE YOUTH IS SO INTO THE STREET LIFE IS BECAUSE OF ALL THESE RAP VIDEOS AND GANGSTA MOVIES IS VERY INFLUENTIAL ON OUR SOCIETY TODAY!! THIS GIVES TEENAGERS THE MIND SET THAT EVERYTHING WILL BE EASY IN LIFE IF YOU HAVE GUNS AND DRUG ETC..OR HOW BOUT THE FACT THAT THE GENERATION TODAY IS SAGGING THEIR PANTS. I DONT THINK THATS ATTRACTIVE AT ALL!! I REMEMBER ONCE UPON A TIME WHEN PEOPLE SAGGED IT WAS A REPRESENTATION OF YOU BEING IN "JAIL" NOW ITS AN INTERRPUTATION OF ONE BEING THE "COOL" KID!! WOW!! BUT VERY GOOD BLOG AND GOOD, STRONG POINTS!!

  2. What is it that attracts our youth to the street life?It can be so many different reasons. It can be from not having a good role model in your life.It can be from being Materialistic. It can be from not having a relationship with God in your life.It can come from being a follower(a underdeveloped mind will fall for anything). Some of the rap music can suck you into believing what you hear & think.Rappers don't care about what you do after you buy the album. They say whatever & trick youth's into thinking it's cool to do whatever they say(it's very misleading). Those so called Gangster rappers don't live in the hood. They have Mansion's.They are not doing drive-by's.If they were doing all the stuff they say in there lyric's...they would be locked up.

  3. I belive that rap music in addition to role models attract youth to street life. In my neighborhood, most of the people that had something were drug dealers...I mean all the guys wanted to be like them because they had money, cars, girls, etc. Rap videos show a dream life that young people want, party all day and getting, don't have to worry about exams and tuition or holding a job. If there's no one in these kids lives to show them that most drug dealers don't live past 30 and that rappers don't live the "thug" life because they stay in their suburbia manions, they'll just keep looking up to them!

  4. In my opinion, There are a plethora of reasons why the youth are in the streets.I believe that it's because of THE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS ans THE LOVE OF MONEY.I personally love money. But not to the point that I'll do anything to get it. The love of money is powerful and it could lead to death. I applaud the person who started this topic. It is hot button and needs to be discussed.! Instead of young people being their own role model, they let society do the leading. It is filtering out nuthin but negativity. The reason why I say that is because the streets are deceitful. I've heard on several occasions that " I turn to the streets cuz I have no choice". Well I dare you to try GOD. His love is unconditional and doesn't have temporary blessings like the streets. When it comes to music... It's all bad. Ask people why they like "Lil Wayne." They're answer will be I don't know. They can't even hear what he is saying, but the things you can hear is him pissin on females and degrading women.Yet he will be the first to say he's not gay. Television show soft pornography and drugs. Everyone no that television isn't always real. And many youth's feel that they can do as they see on tv. This why death occur at such a young age. And the sad part about it that many of the youth's are incognizant to what they're doing. Instead of being the antithesis, They barely differ in similarities. But this is my opinion. Good topic dude.
